MiSSiON AND OBJECTIVES

The Youth Empowerment Suriname (YES) foundation aims to make an effective contribution to developing a positive self-image among young people in Suriname. In doing so, it seeks to increase their chances of success in education and improve their opportunities in society.

To pursue this goal YES offers intensive trainings, workshops, and coaching programs for young people in Suriname. These focus on developing a positive self-image, helping young people become aware of their strengths and talents. The programs offer them the opportunity to grow in a powerful way and enable them to participate fully in society. They also help prevent some young people from dropping out of school prematurely.

ABOUT US

We are an organisation committed to the personal development of young people in Suriname. At the heart of our work is the development of a positive self-image, helping young people become aware of their qualities and talents.

The YES Foundation was established in 2011 and has since guided more than 3,000 young people in their personal development. With a team of dedicated trainers and coaches, we work with great passion to strengthen young people growing up in challenging circumstances.

DOELGROEP

YES targets all young people in Suriname between the ages of 14 and 21, with a particular focus on those who, due to their socio-economic background, face multiple challenges and are therefore more vulnerable.

The young people we support often live in circumstances of financial stress, with limited guidance and little perspective. In addition, they struggle with mental barriers, low self-esteem, and feelings of powerlessness. For young people facing these challenges, there is currently no structured support within the education system in Suriname. Suriname also does not have youth care institutions.

Our project year runs in line with the Surinamese school year, from October 1st to September 30th.
